Project Overview
For this private residence in Gerber Brett Hills, Texas, the goal was to create a modern home with expansive openings, clean sightlines, and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.
Topbright supplied a coordinated package of custom aluminum windows and doors, including TOP 127 pocket sliding doors, TOP 65 double hinged doors, and TOP 108 sliding windows.
The standout feature is the 90-degree corner pocket sliding door configuration, designed to open up the corner and create a more expansive connection to the outdoor living area. A consistent black finish and slim, contemporary frame appearance tie the different systems together.
With Texas summers bringing intense sun and high cooling demands, glazing selection was another important part of the project. The goal was to balance natural light, outdoor views, and thermal performance while maintaining the home's modern architectural style.
Project Challenges
1. Creating a 90° Corner Opening
The homeowner wanted a more open connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces. The challenge was to coordinate the pocket sliding door panels and wall pockets to maximize the opening while maintaining a clean architectural appearance.
2. Matching Finishes Across All Systems
The project called for consistent black frames and narrow sightlines across sliding doors, hinged doors, and windows. Each system needed to complement the others for a cohesive look throughout the home.
3. Managing Texas Heat and Sun Exposure
Large glass openings bring in natural light but can also increase solar heat gain. The glazing needed to balance outdoor views, daylight, and thermal performance for the Texas climate.
Solutions
TOP 127 Pocket Sliding Doors — Open Up the Corner
Designed for the 90-degree corner configuration, the TOP 127 pocket sliding doors allow panels to retract into designated wall pockets, creating a more open transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
TOP 65 Double Hinged Doors — A Consistent Look
The TOP 65 double hinged doors provide convenient everyday access while maintaining the coordinated black finish and modern appearance of the overall window and door package.
TOP 108 Sliding Windows — Clean Lines, Everyday Function
The TOP 108 sliding windows complement the door systems with a streamlined design and practical operation, maintaining visual consistency throughout the residence.
Glazing Selected for Texas Conditions
Glazing selection focused on managing solar heat gain while preserving natural light and outdoor views. Final glass specifications should be matched to the project's energy-performance requirements and local conditions.
